Back in 1851 Saredon consisted of two small hamlets, Great Saredon and Little Saredon with a windmill in Little Saredon as the notable landmark for the area. The community included seven farmers, a malster, shop keeper, four corn millers, a schoolmistress, a blacksmith, a shoemaker and a thrashing machine owner.
The windmill remained in use until 1872, it's working life was further prolonged through the use of a portable steam engine to drive the stones. In 1942, the remains of the sails were removed and the tower was converted into a house for the proprietor of Hawkins Tile Works based in Cannock.
